1. Korean Alphabets Part 1

Hi, I'm Angela and I will be blogging about how to write and read Korean. :)

Let's start with the basics!

This is the table of basic Korean alphabets.

Slice of History
As you can see, there are so many combinations of sounds that you can make from the Korean alphabets.
This was to enable all Korean spoken words to be written because in the past when Koreans used Chinese characters, slang or different dialects could not be written. So, the past Korean King called Sejong had made these alphabets for the lower status people so it is easier to learn for Koreans.

All alphabets are shown above, however, more combinations are possible from those alphabets so be ready!
But first, memorise how/what they sound like first, so you won't be overloaded with information when you are to memorise more combinations of sounds.

How to read the table
Just combine the vowel and the consonant from each column and row,
e.g. ㄱ(g) + ㅏ(a) = 가 (ga), ㅇ + ㅛ(yo) = 요 (yo).
